Southern Grown by Dora Davidson

Dora Davidson’s autobiography is a retelling, in Dora’s voice, of what it was like to grow up in rural North Carolina as an African-American with limited means and resources.  Although as a sharecropper’s child, Dora’s early life was not easy; it was not tragic but a testimony to the strength and determination of the human spirit.  Illustrated with family portraits and historical photographs this book is a great teaching tool about a period in American history that should not be forgotten.

Join Hattie Carthan Community Gardners for their annual food and film festival.  Activities and events will include percussion circle, sharing international recipes, meeting community cooks and food activists, learning about saving seeds, canning and food and farm issues that affect our community.  Buy local fresh vegetables and fruits from our Community Market (open from 8am to 3pm), located right next door to the garden.  Dinners will be available for purchase and the film festival featuring, The Future of Food, begins at 8pm.  Bring a blanket, family and friends to Marcy Avenue between Clifton Place and Lafayette.
