Honoring Healing Transformation Celebration

A Collaboration between Bailey’s Café and Groundswell Community Mural Project

The Corner of Herkimer Street and Nostrand Avenue

Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn

Bailey’s Café, a Brooklyn based non-for-profit, nurtures and guides individuals in their pursuit of self-knowledge through acting, music, dance, video making, writing, cooking and the fine arts.  An intergenerational organization, Bailey’s creates an atmosphere of collective awareness, respect and responsibility, built on the talents and resources of the community.

Groundswell Community Mural Project is a NYC-based, 501(c)(3) founded in 1996 to bring together youth, professional artists, and communities in partnership. We use art as a tool for social change by creating high quality works of public art in under-represented neighborhoods.

About the mural:  Bailey’s Café is entering a pivotal moment in its seven year history as we move toward establishing a permanent home in Bedford-Stuyvesant.  The mural represents many aspects of our work, interpreted through the lens of the Design Team—twelve youth and two lead artists, Christopher Cardinale and Edwin Vasquez, who spent two weeks experiencing Bailey’s before they developed the design for the mural.  The mural will live to tell our story for over twenty years.  Please join us for this important and celebratory moment.
