Inspired by groups like All City Orchestra, Bronx Borough Wide Orchestra, Uhuru Sasa, the New Muse and by caring, excellent artists who encouraged us while growing up in an urban community, Nioka Workman and Clifton Anderson have created the Music For The People programs. Our programs are affordable and low cost. It is our mission to increase an appreciation for music, education and the healing benefits that music has on the human soul, in urban communities.
“Bringing the community together through music”. We involve all people ages 3 to 70+ in exploring and learning music, attending performances and experiencing the joy of sharing music with others. “Listen, observe and do”… Music technique is introduced through games and ‘hands on’ experiences for our younger students. Our programs like Rainbowlab and the popular Suzuki Suite cultivate creativity, listening skills, focus, concentration and coordination in each student.
Top notch instruction by professional teaching artists is provided to students at any age and musical level. All students are encouraged to study music and learn at their own pace. Our teaching artists use positive reinforcement and encouragement to help students see music as a positive, fun experience.
Music For The People programs include exploratory music programs, instrument instruction, ensemble groups, professional music division, workshops, orchestra, band, private lessons available in any instrument including brass, winds, strings, piano, voice and guitar. We also run a Neighborhood Concert series that includes students, professionals and community musicians.
